Court restrains FG from renaming UNILAG

A federal high court in Lagos, today, granted an interim order restraining the Federal Government  from renaming the University of Lagos.Justice Stephen Adah, ruling in the suits brought against the May 29, 2012 renaming of the institution by the students and alumni of the university asked the litigants to harmonize the suits, just as it adjourned further hearing  in the case till July 4.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on May 29th, 2012, during his Democracy Day broadcast renamed the university after Bashorun MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12 1993 presidential election.

The presidential pronouncement generated a lot of controversies leading to lawsuits from some stakeholders who objected the name change.
