Edet Etok-Akpan, 42,  is now being interrogated at the headquarters of the Police Command in Calabar for tormenting his six-year-old daughter, Edidiong, because a church prophetess said that the girl was a witch.

FreshGist.com gathered that Edidiong was beaten by her father and locked up in a room with her hands, mouth and face bound for four days before she was rescued by neighbours.

We learnt that Etok-Akpan began beating her on February 19 after an unknown prophetess in his church told him that Edidiong was a witch and was responsible for his stagnancy in life.

‘After beating me for some days, my father tied my hands with a cord and bound my mouth with a piece of cloth’ she told FreshGist.com reporters.

“He locked me in the inner room of our house and didn’t give me food and never allowed me to go to school.”

After having gone without food for days, she was however fortunate on February 23, when another child, who resides with her parents in the same building came to their veranda to look for broom and found her.

Giving account of how she was saved, Mr. James Ibor, a lawyer said, “The girl went to Edidiong’s veranda to look for a broom and heard the sound of the girl like that of someone struggling with her last breath.

He said the culprit and his wife had locked up the girl in the inner room of their apartment and left for church, adding that the girl was currently residing with her grandmother in another part of the town.
